How did Russia look like?

Ivan III had a military system and this continued through early modern Russia. In the early period, it was necessary because to defend Mongol's counterattacks, but later, it helped Russia to expand its territory into east-central Europe and into North Asia.

Recruiting soldiers were under harsh conditions. Ivan III grant hereditary territories to military nobles including  strict controls over the peasant serfs. Often, peasants fled, but this helped provide both military muscle and labour for further Russian Expansion.

Russian Expansion continued until later Russia as well as the tsarist aristocracy.

The aristocratic landlords, boyars, also had conflicts with the claims of tsars who wanted to rule without interference. This lasted pretty long time, until 16th to 17th century.

The feudal landownership is confirmed by many land privileges. A copy of the stone cross from the grave of a son of Dyak Stefan Borodaty- boyar and famous statesman in the time of Ivan III -says that the wealthy boyar would give on the church a big part of the land praying for his son's soul.
