Byzantine terms, rituals, titles, emblems, etc

Ivan III married to Zoe Paleologa, niece of Byzantine Emperor. She brought customs of the Byzantine court and European culture to Russia.

1. Ivan III thought Moscow as the Third Rome because Rome and Constantinople are first and second Rome. It led to the creation of "Tsar" which is a powerful, autocratic ruler of the Russia.

2. In 1497, Ivan III selected Russian emblem as the double-headed eagle which is also a Byzantine symbol and rebuilt Italian architects in Moscow.

3. The Cathedral of the Dormition

It was built from 1475 to 1479 and it was nation's primary Orthodox church for hundreds of years. Russian monarchs were crowned in the cathedral and upper clergies were chosen. Later, it became a museum and from 1990, some services occur in it.
